We all have our priorities in life. Among your
priorities, do you consider yourself important in your own life? Do
you put yourself on your priorities list? How important do you feel
about yourself? Many of us would admit that we are, of course
important to ourselves. But when it comes to our actions in real
life, on a day-to-day basis we do not act so. In practical life, you
may say you are important to yourself but when it comes to actions,
you may notice that it is not so.
We are taught to give priority to others than our
own selves. You are not selfish to think about yourself, you know?
You do not need to boost your ego or at the other extreme make
yourself stand as the very last person to get attention. You could
develop a healthy sense of self-importance.
You should remember that your life revolves
around you. If you don’t consider yourself a priority on a
day-to-day life, it is not possible to live a contented life. In
fact, most of us make this mistake of putting others ahead of us and
end up feeling frustrated. This is how you would feel if you do not
give yourself importance.
Many people put off doing things important to
them for various reasons such as their family, finance, etc. For
example, if you have promised yourself that you would complete your
education once the children grew up, once you make enough money,
etc. that time is now. Otherwise, by the time you reach your 50’s or
60’s, you would still be doing the same things you are doing up till
now, nothing would have changed for you. You would be at the end of
line forever!
How do you place yourself as a top priority?
If you have missed yourself to top the list till
now, it is okay. But, Now is the time for you to take yourself
seriously and do things for yourself.
Take a positive action today by putting yourself
at the top of your priority list today – Make a list of things you
want done for yourself and start heading towards that direction.
Keep taking little steps each day, so that in due course of time you
would realize that you have reached your destination. You would be
satisfied with yourself and would definitely be a much happier
person.
Keep a journal in which you would write down all
your activities. Review these and see how many of these have been
done for you by yourself. Look for these points in your list of
activities:
Have you spent some personal time just for
yourself?
Did you feel important about your personal
activities like going for a walk, reading, exercising or even
sitting with your favorite magazine with a cup of coffee?
§What did you do as a way
of taking personal care?
§How did you feel about
yourself during those activities you performed for yourself
§Did you have fun spending
some leisure time just for you?
§Did you have pleasure
doing something creative?
If you answered these questions honestly, you
would realize how much you have wanted to do things for yourself.
Now you would know if you want to place yourself as a priority or
just be left behind. Are you ready to take action yet?
